As a qualified first aid trainer, and a training paramedic with London Ambulance Service, Shaun brings firsthand experience from the frontline into our First Aid, Mental Health and Healthcare courses. All training is designed to be practical, engaging, and aligned with real-world best practices.

Paediatric First Aid (2 Day) Course

This comprehensive three-day course equips individuals with the essential skills and confidence to handle a wide range of workplace first aid emergencies. Fully compliant with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, it is ideal for workplaces of all risk levels, ensuring designated first aiders can respond effectively in critical situations.

Course Duration: 2 Days (Typically 6–7 hours per day, including breaks)

Childcare professionals, nursery staff, teachers, and childminders
Parents, guardians, and anyone caring for children
Those requiring an Ofsted-compliant first aid qualification

Course Content:

This course covers a wide range of paediatric first aid emergencies, including:

Roles & Responsibilities of a Paediatric First Aider – Understanding legal requirements and the importance of incident reporting.
Assessing an Incident – Conducting a scene survey, primary survey, and calling for emergency assistance.
Unresponsive Infants & Children – How to assess and manage an unconscious baby or child, including the recovery position.
CPR & AED Use – Step-by-step guidance on infant and child CPR and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
Choking – How to respond to choking in infants and children (both partial and complete obstruction).
Bleeding & Wound Management – Recognizing different types of bleeding and applying appropriate first aid techniques.
Shock – Identifying and managing shock in children.
Fractures, Sprains & Strains – Recognizing and managing musculoskeletal injuries.
Head, Neck & Spinal Injuries – Appropriate first aid response to serious injuries.
Burns & Scalds – Proper treatment methods for minor and severe burns.
Febrile Seizures & Epilepsy – How to manage seizures and recognize epilepsy symptoms.
Common Childhood Illnesses & Allergic Reactions – Managing asthma, croup, meningitis, anaphylaxis, and other medical conditions.
Poisons & Foreign Objects – Recognizing and responding to ingestion of harmful substances or objects.

Assessment & Certification:

Continuous practical assessment
by the instructor
Successful candidates receive a Level 3 Paediatric First Aid Certificate, valid for three years
Meets Ofsted, EYFS, and Health & Safety Executive (HSE) requirements

Additional Information:

No prior first aid experience required
✔ Course materials and a paediatric first aid handbook provided
Hands-on training with child and infant mannequins, bandages, and first aid equipment

By the end of the course, participants will have the confidence and skills to respond effectively to paediatric emergencies, ensuring the safety and well-being of infants and children.
