Medical Emergencies in Dental Practice

This hands-on training session is designed specifically for dental teams and covers everything required to meet CQC expectations and General Dental Council (GDC) CPD requirements for medical emergency preparedness in the dental setting.

Course Duration: 3 Hours (Annual Refresher)

Recommended annually for all clinical staff as per Resuscitation Council UK, General Dental Council and British Dental Association (BDA) guidelines. The course is suitable for:

This course provides both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in handling medical emergencies in the dental practice, including:

CPR / Basic Life Support (Adult & Paediatric)

- Primary Survey & Assessment
- Pulse Points & Vital Signs
- CPR Techniques (Hands-on Practice)
- Safe Use of an AED (Automated External Defribrillator)
- Choking Management
- Recovery Position
- Airway Management and Ventilation (Including use of Adjuncts and BVM use)

Managing Common Medical Emergencies in Dentistry and Emergency Drugs

- Anaphylaxis (+ Adrenaline Auto Injector Use)
- Asthma Attacks
- Hypoglycaemia
- Epileptic Seizures
- Syncope (Fainting)
- Cardiac Emerhgencoes (Angina & Myocardial Infarction)
- Stroke & FAST Assessment

Emergency Preparedness for Dental Settings

- Roles & Responsibilities of Team Members
- Calling for Help & Effective Handovers to EMS

Assessment & Certification:

Continuous practical assessment by the instructor. On successful completion, participants will receive:

- Medical Emergencies in Dental Practice Certificate
(Valid for 1 year, meeting professional CPD requirements)

Note: We have condensed our 'Medical Emergencies in Dental Practice' training course to be suitable for experienced healthcare professionals’ CPD, and those that surround them. You will receive a CPD-certified certificate on completion, however if you require an accredited basic life support certificate in addition - courses will be four hours, rather than three to meet the awarding bodies qualification requirements. Please contact our team to discuss if you require specifically accredited certicicates.
